一、主部結構

主部是一個以主詞（Subject）為中心的結構，而主詞可以有修飾語（Modifier）：

主部Subject：主詞Subject + 修飾語Modifier

主詞必須是名詞、名詞片語、名詞子句，或是其他可作名詞使用的詞語，例如代名詞、不定詞片語、動名詞片語等：

1. Birds fly. （名詞）鳥飛。

2. The school bus is very convenient. （名詞片語）校車很方便。

3. That the earth is round is true. （名詞子句）地球是圓的這件事是真的。

4. She is a teacher. （代名詞）她是老師。

5. To finish the task won't take long. （不定詞片語）要完成這任務不需要很久時間。

6. Eating too much is bad for one's health. （動名詞片語）吃太多對健康不好。

主詞修飾語Modifier須為形容詞、形容詞片語、形容詞子句，或是其他可作形容詞用的詞語，包括不定詞、現在分詞、過去分詞等，可有一個以上的修飾語。當然，主詞的修飾語愈多，主部也就愈長：

1. Kind people are welcome everywhere. （形容詞）親切的人到處受歡迎。

2. The bag on the chair is mine. （形容詞片語）椅子上的那個袋子是我的。

3. The girl who talked to you was my girlfriend. （形容詞子句）（跟你講話的那女孩是我女朋友。）

4. The only thing to do now is to wait. （不定詞片語）（現在唯一該做的事就是等待。）

5. The baby sleeping in the crib looks cute. （現在分詞鄉語）（睡在嬰兒床裡的那個寶寶看起來好可愛。）

6. The gold hidden under the floor was found. （過去分詞片語）（藏在地板下面的金子被找到了。）
